USEF Alumni

Welcome to USEF-Nepal's alumni page! The number of alumni from our various programs has now exceeded 1,000 people - 673 Nepali grantees and 428 American grantees.

2010-11 cohort of the NESA-UGRAD program, Tanoj Dulal, Nabin Shrestha, Shristi Khati, and Sujan Dhakal at the annual Fulbright Day celebration in June, 2012.

The first grants awarded for Nepalis traveling to the U.S. reach as far back in time as 1952. Even before the Commission was officially established in 1961, grantees from Nepal traveled to the U.S. under the auspices of the Fulbright program and starting in 1962, American scholars began coming to Nepal under the auspices of the Fulbright program.

Our programs for Nepalis have included various programs under the Fulbright name and the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program. We have also long been the Nepal representative of the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii and have in recent years begun administering programs such as the Partnership in Learning in the U.S. (PLUS) Program and the Near East and South Asia Undergraduate Exchange (NESA UGRAD) Program. Many program alumni have come together to form their own alumni organizations, with whom we work closely. The alumni organizations in Nepal are:

  • Fulbright Alumni Association, Nepal
  • Nepal Association of Humphrey Fellows (NAHF)
  • East-West Center Alumni - Nepal Chapter

Mr. Yog Prasad Upadhaya, one of the two Fulbright grantees from Nepal in the very first cohort of Fulbrighters from Nepal who left in 1952 with Chair of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board Mr. Tom Healy and then U.S. Ambassador to Nepal the Honorable Scott H. DeLisi at the annual Fulbright Day celebration in June, 2012.

Our programs for Americans have generally been for senior scholars, specialists or students. There are also alumni organizations based in the United States, including:

  • Fulbright Association
  • Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology
  • East-West Center Association

We are in the process of developing a comprehensive alumni database which will be made available from this page very soon. In the meantime, we encourage all of our alumni to keep in touch and inform us about any of your publications or other achievements.
