Do you want to study in the United States? You’ve come to the right place! USEF-Nepal houses Nepal’s only EducationUSA Advising Center supported by the United States Department of State. We provide you with accurate, reliable, unbiased, and free information on higher education in the United States. Our center is the official source of information and advice on studying in the United States.
USEF-Nepal’s EducationUSA Advising Center is not-for-profit and is part of a global network of 400+ advising centers in 170 countries. USEF-Nepal has Nepal’s most comprehensive library of resources about studying in the USA. We offer weekly group advising sessions, specialized advising sessions, a Prometric Testing Center, and many other services to assist you in applying to American colleges and universities. All core advising services are offered to students entirely free of cost.
USEF-Nepal also administers the Fulbright Scholarship, a full scholarship for graduate level studies in the United States.

Friday Group Advising Sessions
If you are thinking about studying in the United States, your first step is to attend USEF’s Friday Group Advising session. Topics include pre-requisites for studying in the USA, admission requirements, the application procedure, costs, scholarships, and standardized tests. Sessions are held every Friday morning and are FREE of cost. To attend, register at the library front desk starting Monday mornings at 10am.
Ask an Adviser Sessions
A USEF adviser provides small group advising, answering your questions on studying in the USA and providing guidance specific to your case. FREE of cost, these sessions are offered every Tuesday at 4pm in the USEF library. Advance registration is not required; just be seated in the library by 3:45pm. The prerequisite for this session is that you must first attend USEF’s Friday Group Advising and then start your college search using the information you learn at Group Advising.
Library Services
At USEF’s library, you can access comprehensive, current information on higher education in the USA. USEF’s library houses college directories and guides, college catalogs, test preparation books, application essay books, and much more. You may access the library entirely FREE of cost; membership is NOT required. FREE Internet access for college search is available at the library. Please note that if you would like to use our ‘special reference collection,’ which contains essay guides, newer test preparation books, and books on specialized topics, you will need to deposit your national ID (passport, citizenship card, or driver’s license) at the USEF front desk while you use the books in the library.
Prometric Testing Center
The Prometric Testing Center at USEF administers computer-based tests on a daily basis. The TOEFL, GRE, and USMLE are among the tests available.
Pre-Tests
Familiarize yourself with standardized test content and format at USEF’s computer lab. USEF offers practice tests for TOEFL, GRE and GMAT in a simulated test environment. Advance registration with payment of Rs. 250 is required.
Specialized Advising Sessions
USEF offers you advising sessions on a variety of specialized topics. Attend the ones that are relevant to you! Unless where indicated, sessions are FREE of cost. Advance registration is required for all sessions.

Orientation on the Standardized Tests
This session offers an introduction to the TOEFL, SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT. Learn what these tests are about, which ones to take, available test formats, test dates, sample questions, and how to register. For undergraduate and graduate applicants. Offered monthly. -
Tips on Writing an Application Essay – Rs. 50
Learn about what colleges look for in application essays, and get some great tips and expert advice on writing yours. For undergraduate and graduate applicants. Offered monthly. -
Scholarship 101
In this specialized session that focuses on scholarships, you will learn about the different types of scholarships available, criteria for winning those scholarships, ways to reduce your cost of attendance, resources for scholarship searching, scholarship scams, and more! Separate sessions for undergraduate and graduate applicants. Offered monthly. -
Using the Common Application
The Common Application is accepted by more than 450 U.S. colleges and universities for undergraduate admission. In this special session at USEF, you will learn all about `the Common App' and how to use it! Open to: Undergrad applicants. -
Effective Communication with Admissions Offices
Learn about importance of effective communication with U.S. college and university admissions offices. Find out about the different types of communication and learn tips to improve YOUR communication skills. This session is open to undergraduate and graduate level applicants. -
Student Visa Info Session
For students who have received I-20s (admissions to U.S. colleges), USEF offers free information sessions about student visas to the United States. Sessions are held with a U.S. Embassy Consular Officer monthly during peak student visa application seasons. -
Culture Shock & Traveling to the USA – Rs. 20
For students who have received visas to start their studies in the United States, USEF screens a video on culture shock, followed by a discussion on 'Traveling to the USA' in which students will learn about navigating airports, immigration procedures, arriving in the USA, and useful travel tips. Students should also attend USEF’s Pre-Departure Orientation.

USEF offers a variety of other regular and very interesting events. These events are free of cost, unless otherwise indicated.

“Get Inspired” Series
For this series, USEF invites a wide and exciting variety of guest speakers who have something interesting and relevant to share with you. Topics will be as diverse as our speakers! If you’re looking for a little inspiration and a fresh perspective, don’t miss this exciting series. Many sessions are open to both undergraduate and graduate applicants; some sessions are only for one or the other. Offered approximately once a month. -
U.S. College Presentations
USEF often hosts representatives from U.S. colleges and universities, who make presentations about their institutions to interested students. These sessions are a great way to interact directly with a U.S. college admissions officer or faculty member and learn about specific colleges!
Transcript Attestation
USEF attests copies of academic transcripts (mark-sheets) for submission to American colleges and universities. A nominal fee is charged for this service.
Materials for Sale
USEF sells a variety of reference materials on studying in the USA. Guidebooks and test preparation books are available for sale.
Pre-Departure Orientation
After you receive a student visa to start your studies in the USA, register to attend USEF’s Pre-Departure Orientation, a fun and informative workshop about cultural issues, academic matters, visa regulations, and adjusting to life in the USA. Offered in summer and winter, these sessions offer valuable advice, insight, and tips you should know before you depart for the United States!
