Mr. Kishore Thapa joined the civil service in Nepal in 1983, and served the nation as a technical personnel for 32 years before retiring in 2014. He served as the Secretary for the Government of Nepal in various ministries, including the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Tourism and Civil aviation, Election Commission and Water and Energy Commission.
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Master’s degree in Urban Planning with specialization in Housing. He studied urban redevelopment and affordable housing in the United States as a Humphrey Fellow.
Immediately after the devastating earthquake on April 25, 2015, he was appointed as the Senior Adviser to the National Planning Commission for preparing the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) and drafting the Post-Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Policy. The Government of Nepal also appointed him as an Expert Member in the Steering Committee of National Reconstruction Authority, which is chaired by the Prime Minister.
Currently he is the Chairman of SAARC Association of Architects (SAARCH), and the Immediate Past President of Society of Nepalese Architects (SONA). He has taken part in the civil movement for cleaning the Bagmati and its tributaries in Kathmandu Valley since the first day of the movement. He is affiliated to Kathmandu University and Purbanchal University as a member of Academic Council.
He was a candidate for the post of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan city in the last local election. Currently he is a Central Committee Member of Bibeksheel Sajha Party.« Back
