Fulbright Forum

A Period of Transition at the IoF: Past, Present,Future and Perspective From Others

The Fulbright Commission and Fulbright Alumni Association of Nepal (FAAN) are delighted to host an in-person Fulbright Forum on Tuesday, December 20 at 4:00 PM at the Innovation Hub (iHub) Kathmandu, Teku.

In 2004, during a time of civil unrest in Nepal, Dr. Andrew Egan was the first Senior Fulbright Scholar posted with Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Forestry (IOF) and the first Fulbrighter posted outside the Kathmandu Valley. One of his primary responsibilities during his 5-month posting was to research and present a critical review of the IOF and recommendations for its future. Returning to the IOF as a Fulbright Scholar some 18 years later, Dr. Andrew offers observations on what has changed and what remains at the IOF during a period of transition in Nepal.

Fulbright Teaching/Research Scholar Dr. Andrew Egan joined the Institute of Forestry in Pokhara, Nepal, in June 2022. Although he has worked with students in the MSc program at IOF’s Hetauda campus, he has spent most of his time on the Pokhara campus with 2nd year, 4th year and graduate students in the areas of forest mensuration, silviculture, forest operations and research methods. This is Dr. Andrew’s second Fulbright Award, having served on a five-month Fulbright posting with the IOF in 2004. He is a professor on the forest science faculties of the University of Maine (USA) and Laval University (Québec). He is currently on the forestry faculty at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
