| | In March, USEF-Nepal welcomed six new English Teaching Assistants (ETA) who will spend nine months in public school classrooms assisting local English teachers while also serving as cultural ambassadors for the United States. The ETAs are currently engaged in a one-month intensive orientation program, including training in Nepali language, prior to starting their assignments at public schools in Kathmandu, Kavre, and Kailali. Shortly after their arrival in Nepal, the ETAs had an opportunity to discuss their new assignments with U.S. Ambassador Dean Thompson, who serves as Honorary Chair of the USEF-Nepal Board, along with Board Chair Garrett Wilkerson and Treasurer Sarah Knight. |

| | | | On March 14th, Student Researcher Rachael Lau organized the Kathmandu Geohazard Early Warning Research Symposium in collaboration with Duke University and her affiliate institutions, the National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET) and the Institute of Engineering (IoE), Pulchowk Campus. The event was also facilitated by the Ktmgeolab team comprised of IOE engineering students whom Rachael is currently mentoring. The team, alongside students from Duke, presented topics ranging from understanding Nepal’s seismicity to low-cost earthquake sensor calibration. |

| Rachael founded the Ktmgeolab, which blends engineering and social science to make geohazard analysis accessible and exciting. The group has been leading Earthquake Education sessions for public school students and teachers in Kathmandu Valley since February. These interactive sessions describe the mechanisms of an earthquake and what to do (and what not to do) when an earthquake occurs. The team also provided supplementary materials and online resources for participants to reference and share. |
