USEF-Nepal wishes all a merry Christmas!

Message From The Commission

The Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States and Nepal (also known as the Fulbright Commission or USEF/Nepal) is open fully fledged for the public now. All in-person activities were halted and replaced with online activities since March 2020 due to the pandemic. USEF Nepal staff teleworked and continued to provide online as well as telephone advise to students, scholars and institutions for nearly two years. We are excited to welcome the public back to our premise in Aakriti Marg, Maharajgunj.

The Prometic Testing Center is open in full capacity now. For testing queries, email testing@fulbrightnepal.org.np

Anyone can access the USEF-Nepal Library Monday through Friday, except on holidays that fall on a weekday. The library will have two shifts in a day. The morning shift will be 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, and the afternoon shift will be 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Students will need to book an appointment in advance to use the library. Students and scholars who wish to attest their academic documents can drop them off from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM during a working day. Students must bring original academic documents along with clear photocopies for attestation.

All visitors wishing to avail USEF-Nepal’s services must wear a mask at all times while on our premises. Stay safe!

Fulbright Highlights

Mentor Talks with Fulbright Alumni was organized in collaboration with American Spaces on October 29. Fulbright Foreign Students Program (Master’s) Alumni Trishna Rayamajhi and Shristi Mishra were the panelists of the session. Shristi studied International Education Development in The University of Pennsylvania. Trishna is pursuing Natural Resources and the Environment in Cornell University, and she is currently doing her research in Nepal. Shristi and Trishna offered valuable information and suggestions relating to the Fulbright Foreign Student Program and shared their experiences of studying in the US. Learn More

During International Education Week 2021, the Institute of International Education (IIE) released the 2021 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange in 2020/21.
Nepal continues to hold its position as the 12th largest country of origin of international students in the United States, with 11,172 students!
Our center celebrated IEW 2021, conducting informative virtual events and fun competitions. Here is a picture of some of the winners from the IEW 2021 competitions.

Samantha Helle

Conservation scientist Samantha Helle has recently been awarded the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) by the U.S. Department of Education.
Samantha came to Nepal after completing her M.Sc. in 2019-2020 from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities when she was awarded the US Fulbright Research Fellowship to understand how various stakeholder groups in wildlife-conflict hotspots proactively mitigate conflicts with tigers and the inner workings of Community-Based Anti-Poaching Units. Since then, she has been collaborating with The National Trust for Nature Conservation, Women Acting Together for Change, and local Buffer Zone Community Forest User Groups around Chitwan and Parsa National Parks. She has been industriously involved in studying tiger population connectivity and understanding the local capacity for tiger conservation outside protected areas in Nepal’s community-managed forests. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, UW-Madison.
