The Fulbright Commission in Nepal is scheduled to reopen English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program starting March 15, 2022, after a two-year hiatus. Due to the fact that the pandemic persists and the safety of the grantees remains our top concern, the ETA grantees will be placed in public schools in the periphery of the Kathmandu Valley, within an hour’s commute at the most to a major hospital in case of serious medical emergencies. The Commission is confident of being able to run a wholly engaging program that will support the improvement of English language competencies of Nepali students through the placement of native speakers of the English language from the United States in the school system for up to 10 months. And for the U.S. grantees, to learn deeply about Nepali community life, educational realities and experience life outside of their comfort zone but one that will help develop their knowledge, leadership and cross-cultural understanding, which we hope will contribute to their active engagement in creating a more peaceful world. |
