Message From The Commission

Namaste!

We invite you to visit USEF-Nepal at our Maharajgunj office for accurate, current, and comprehensive information on higher education in the United States. Our services include a resource library, orientations and specialized advising sessions, and proctored online exams at the Prometric Testing Center. We also provide attestation of documents. You must bring a photo identification to acquire entry into the compound. We request that you wear a mask at all times while on the premises.

In August, we welcomed our new Executive Director Nick Langton. Nick has a long history in Nepal and has served on Fulbright boards in three countries: Philippines, Nepal, and India. We provided orientation to Fulbright Teaching Excellence Award (TEA) Program grantees who depart for the United States this month and welcomed new U.S. Student Researchers arriving in-country. Upcoming events include three educational fairs in September—two virtual and one in-person—organized by Education USA (see details below).

Fulbright Highlights

Fulbright Teaching Excellence Award (TEA) Pre Departure Orientation

Teaching Excellence Award (TEA) Program Fall 2022 grantees Bibas Thapa and Roma Shrestha completed their Pre-Departure Orientation on August 29 prior to departing for the U.S. The orientation covered topics ranging from preparing for the program to guidance on what to expect in the United States. The Commission invited Fulbright TEA alumni Hari Tiwari from Budhanilkanta School and Gita Kafle from Nandi Secondary School to share their experiences.

Fulbright TEA grants are awarded to international secondary-level teachers of English as a Foreign Language, math, science, and social studies, including special education teachers in those subjects, to visit the United States for a six-week program involving academic seminars, observations and co-teaching in U.S. classrooms, and collaborating on best educational practices with educators and students at a host universities and secondary schools. Participants also engage in civic and cultural activities in their host communities to promote mutual understanding between their countries and the United States.

We hope that many of you can join us virtually and in person for these fairs, which will give you an opportunity to interact with college representatives, explore your options, and find the best fit. Participation at the fairs is free of cost, but pre-registration through the above links is mandatory.

Alumni Highlights

Global UGRAD Pre Departure Orientation and Alumni Engagement for Outreach

An enthusiastic Global UGRAD Program community came together on August 2nd for a pre-departure orientation for Fall 2022 grantee Hitendra Jha, who will complete a semester exchange at West Virginia University in Forestry. Another grantee, Madhusudan Ghimire, will depart Nepal in January for a Psychology and Sociology Program at Missouri State University. Global UGRAD alumni Som Raj Sharma, Srijana Sharma, Bipin Lekhak, Nabin Shestha and Kusha Gurung shared their experiences and tips to make the most out of the program with the outgoing grantees.

The gathering also held vital discussions on ways to mobilize alumni for USEF’s outreach throughout Nepal. The group suggested virtual talks, social media engagement led by alumni, collaboration with alumni associations, and alumni ambassadors in their respective institutions.
