Humphrey Pre-Departure Orientation |
On April 5th, the Commission conducted a pre-departure orientation for AY 2024-2025 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow Dr. Jagadish Joshi (Public Health Policy and Management, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health). Humphrey alumnus Resham Lal Kandel (2020, Public Policy Analysis, Syracuse University) shared his experiences and offered valuable tips on navigating the Humphrey experience in the United States. We wish Dr. Joshi every success during his stay in the United States. |

Fulbright Alumni Association Visit to USEF-Nepal |
On April 19th, 23 members of the Fulbright Alumni Association, who had served as scholars, students, and fellows in over 20 countries, visited the Commission. They toured the premises and had an opportunity to discuss Fulbright and Education USA activities in Nepal with USEF/N staff. |

Boundaries Reimagined: A Weaving Installation by U.S. Student Researcher Rachael Viola Bordon |
Fulbright Student Researcher and Visiting Artist Rachael Viola Bordon hosted a weaving installation in partnership with the Nepal Knotcraft Centre at Taragaon Next. The installation was the culmination of Viola’s research during the past year hosted by Kathmandu University School of Arts. It highlighted her utilization of water hyacinth as a medium for her work. The plant is invasive and has brought about ecological shifts in landscapes near Koshi Tappu. |

Guruwa, The Healers of Tharu People by Maria Bossert |
On April 20th, Fulbright Student Researcher Maria Bossert hosted a collaborative storytelling session at the Tharu Cultural Museum and Research Center in Chitwan. The session featured storyteller Ramdin Chaudhary, an expert in traditional medicinal plants, who shared insights into the Tharu Guruwa practice and its historical role in treating and safeguarding the Tharu community from malaria infections. |

Research Presentations at Dhulikhel Hospital by Neha Balapal, Margaret Chi, and Lindy Reynolds |
On April 29th, Fulbright-Fogarty Fellows Neha Balapal, Margaret Chi, and Lindy Reynolds, hosted a Fulbright Forum at Dhulikhel Hospital where they presented their research during the past year conducted in cooperation with Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences. Neha presented her findings on community perceptions regarding the integration of ayurveda and allopathic care into cardiovascular disease prevention; Margaret presented her work characterizing the genomic epidemiology of dengue in central Nepal during the 2022 and 2023 seasons; and Lindy presented her research on the experiences of patients between injury and arrival at emergency care facilities. |

Training for Teachers and Counselors |
The Educational Advising Center (EAC) collaborated with the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy to support training for teachers and guidance counselors in Biratnagar, Pokhara, and Kathmandu to increase their awareness of U.S. higher education opportunities and improve their ability to provide students with appropriate guidance. The EAC assisted grant recipient Society of Ex-Budhanilkantha Students (SEBS) to plan and execute the training, which covered topics including admission procedures, financial aid, crafting persuasive recommendations, the student visa process, ethical standards and confidentiality, and EducationUSA’s five-step approach for prospective student applicants. |

EducationUSA Advisers Shanti Thapa and Dev Adhikari both completed training in April to strengthen their skills in providing services to prospective students in Nepal. Shanti attended the 2024 g2 South Asia Admissions, Recruitment, and Counseling Edition in New Delhi during April 18-19. The conference brought together more than 50 counselors, educations, and higher education admission officers to interact on ways to collaborate in supporting the needs of students applying to institutions in the United States. Dev completed his EducationUSA Level 1 training, a six-week course conducted virtually by the Adviser Training Institute in Washington DC. |

On April 28, the Nepal Association of Humphrey Fellows (NAHF) continued its talk series with a program titled "Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nepal: Scope, Challenges, and Opportunities." The event explored avenues for maximizing Nepal's youth employment with a specific focus on reducing reliance on overseas employment in industries characterized as "Three D" (Dirty, Difficult, and Dangerous). |
