Message From USEF-Nepal

Fulbright Program

The Visiting Scholar Program offers Asian scholars the opportunity to cultivate collaborative research and artistic connections with scholars and artists in the United States. It allows them to enrich their scholarly publications and other contributions through research and artistic practice conducted in the U.S., while also facilitating the establishment of professional contacts in their respective fields and the development of lasting friendships with colleagues in the United States.

On October 11, USEF-Nepal conducted a Virtual Information and Q&A session about the AY 2024-25 Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program application process. Program Officer Swechhya Bhattarai and Senior Program Officer Rakchhya Maharjan shared information about the program. During the Q&A session, participants had the opportunity to have their questions answered directly by our alumnus, Dr. Sanju Shrestha (2021, Physics, New Jersey Institute of Technology).

Fulbright Scholar Dr. Shiva Prasad Gautam was recently on the Sushant Pradhan Podcast, where he shared expert insights into biostatistics and research design. You can watch the full video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdsC4evPn7g&t=70s As a Fulbright Scholar awardee for 2023-24, Dr. Gautam is spending five months at the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences-Dharan.

Congratulations to Tufan Neupane, Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow for 2023 at Arizona State University, for receiving a fellowship at AccessFest by Investigative Reporters and Editors!

Through this Fellowship, he will have the opportunity to further enhance his data journalism and investigative reporting skills.

Educational Advising Center

EducationUSA held a regional forum in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from October 17-21 attended by three advisers from the USEF-Nepal: Priyani Shah, Shanti Thapa, and Dev Adhikari. Over 70 U.S. higher education representatives, 50 EducationUSA advisers from 12 countries, and U.S. State Department officials gathered to discuss student recruitment strategies for students from South and Central Asia. The Nepal advisers both presented and attended sessions conducted by U.S. higher institution representatives and fellow advisers from the region.

PATA Travel Mart 2023

Humphrey Program alumnus Shradha Shrestha (2021, Economic Development at Michigan State University), took part in a thought-provoking panel discussion on addressing the gender gap in tourism and sustainability during the Pata Travel Mart 2023 held on October 4-6 in Delhi. During the event, she shared valuable insights on Nepal's endeavors to promote gender empowerment within the tourism sector. Additionally, she supported the efforts of the Nepal Tourism Board, specifically highlighting the Trade & Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP) in fostering the inclusion of the LGBTQI+ community in the tourism industry.

New Journalism chair

Fulbright alumni Kunda Dixit (1984, Communication/Journalism at Columbia University) has been elected as the new chair of the Centre for Investigative Journalism Nepal.
