Fulbright Specialist Program

Program Activities

2022 Specialist Dr. Mustaq Memon facilitated a Fulbright Scholarship Opportunities workshop at his host institution Agriculture and Forestry University, Chitwan

The Fulbright Specialist Program empowers host institutions to design projects that address their unique priorities while maintaining a focus on education or training. Given the short-term nature of the exchange, proposed projects should have well-defined, achievable objectives that can be completed during the Specialist’s visit.

Specialists have previously supported host institutions through activities such as:

  • Delivering seminars or workshops
  • Consulting on faculty or workforce development
  • Developing academic or training curricula and materials
  • Lecturing at the graduate or undergraduate level
  • Conducting needs assessments or program evaluations

Personal research projects, including clinical medical research or initiatives involving patient contact, are not eligible for funding under the Fulbright Specialist Program.

Project Duration: Each project must be a minimum of 14 days and a maximum of 42 days, including travel days and weekends.

Project Timeline: The time for approval of project from the date of submission of application may take up to 9 weeks. Project implementation dates depend on the application cycle. Please see the note mentioned in the call.

Location: Projects are limited to one country, and all activities must take place in Nepal.

Specialist Allocation: Each project is restricted to one Fulbright Specialist grantee.

Multi-Visit Projects

If a host institution would benefit from having a Fulbright Specialist make multiple visits, a Multi-Visit project may be proposed. However, Multi-Visit projects are rare and require a strong justification demonstrating how multiple visits would enhance project outcomes.

Key parameters for Multi-Visit projects include:

  • A maximum of two trips per project.
  • All trips must be completed within a one-year period by the same Fulbright Specialist. The one-year period starts on the initial project start date and ends 12 months later.
  • Each visit must last a minimum of 14 days, and the total duration of all visits combined cannot exceed six weeks (42 days).
